About Fireship Press
Fireship
Press is a bright, shiny, new publishing company. By "new" I mean
as in... only about one year old. (We were thinking of adding
"Est. 2007" to our logo but decided that it would not be all that
impressive.) It specializes in the following kinds of books (in
this order of priority):
- Nautical Fiction and
Non-fiction
- Historical Fiction
and Non-fiction (other than nautical)
- Golf Books (It's a
long story)
- Other stuff we think
is good.
Many
of our nautical and historical line-up (and even some of our “Other”
books) will be based around what we call Contemporized Classics™
For these books
we will be taking works that were written (mostly) in the Victorian era
but, unlike a lot of small publishers, we will NOT just be re-packaging
them. Each book will be line-edited so that they “read right” to the
modern eye. The content will not be changed; but half-page run-on
sentences, massive two-page paragraphs and so forth, will be altered.
The closest analogy is probably to the “colorization” and re-release of
old movies that has been done in recent years.
In any event,
that’s our angle and we hope to be successful with it. I mean—terrific
unabridged books, modern readability—what’s not to like about THAT.
Our “Other”
line-up is just that. They are books that we think are great but do not
fit into the nautical/historical category. In this you could find
almost anything, but all of them will have one characteristic. They are
wonderful books. We’re not going to NOT publish them just because they
don’t fall into the nautical or historical category.
So that’s what
we’re about. As mentioned above, we're a small and very new company.
You won't confuse the size of our title list with Simeon and Schuster,
but in our first year we averaged over four books a month. That's not
bad and we hope to be adding two to four titles a month for the
foreseeable future.
We hope you will
come back to this website often. We think you will be glad you did.
